Intermediate Laser Sailing Class (16 years and up)

IMPORTANT UPDATE 8/20/2021:   All Participants will be checked for proof of vaccination at the start of class on the first day.

Hafa Adai!

The Intermediate Small Boat Sailing Course is for sailors who have completed a beginner sailing course and/or have become comfortable with all basic sailing skills like how to tack, jibe, rig, derig, launch and land a small boat safely. As an intermediate sailor candidate you are ready to build on those skills, gain a deeper understanding behind how a sailboat works, improve your boat performance, and perfect your skills and maneuvers. The Intermediate Sailing Course is also the perfect next step for anyone wanting to step up and begin racing small sailboats.

Subjects covered in the Intermediate Sailing course include:
- wind, weather, tides, and currents
- sail shape and controls
- how sailing works
- body position and boat balance (hiking techniques)
- advanced boat handling (close hauled, downwind, roll tacking and jibing)
- safety and seamanship
- advanced rigging
- introduction to racing and racing rules

Mastering the skills covered in this course prepares you for a number of different paths to advanced sailing. For those with a competitive spirit, racing sailboats may be your preference. Perhaps coastal cruising and navigation suit you. Regardless of which pursuit appeals to you, or even if you're interested in all types of sailing, the Intermediate Sailing Course is a great next step.
