Join the Race Committee
The Marianas Yacht Club is always looking for volunteers to join the Race Committee and help hold sailing competitions at the club.
Prior experience is helpful, but not needed. Our membership is always evolving and we are always looking for new volunteers. Training in on the job and on the water - the only characteristic needed is a desire to learn and a committment to show up consistently throughout the racing season.
Committe Boat Positions Include: course choosing, timing, flags, VHF communication, sighting the line and recording. A basic understanding of the rules, and/or a desire to learn are desirable.
Chase/Mark Boat Positions include: These members will help set marks and operate the safety and judges boat. To operate and assist one of the powerboats, you need to be physically fit and agile.
Staff Photographers/Media Coordinators: We are always looking for event photographers and media coordinators. As a photoagrapher, you can ride on eithe the Committee boat and/or Chase/Mark boats taking photos to be used either for media or for distribution to the racers. As Media Coordinator, we are looking for people who can document the fun on the water and submit event write-up/results to the various news organizations on island.
It is so rewarding and fun to be a part of the Race Committee. As a Race Committe Volunteer, you have the opportunity to learn about racing, racing rules, and sailing. You get to build on the commaradie of the club, meet new people, and generally have a great time!
Please sign up to be part of the Race Committee by contacting board@marianasyachtclub.org.
